Capri: best spots for an unforgettable visit

Capri, the Mediterranean island famed for its beauty, hides dream places all waiting to be discovered. This guide showcases the best places to see in Capri for an unforgettable trip, from the Gardens of Augustus to the natural grottos, to experience the island as a true insider.

Marina Grande

This busy port is where most visitors land when arriving on Capri and what a welcome it is, with colourful houses and fishing boats bobbing around the port. Marina Grande is home to one of Capri’s most important and oldest churches, the Church of San Costanzo and the famed Scala Fenicia, an immense staircase that connects Capri to the mountain town of Anacapri.

Villa Jovis

The ruins of the ancient Roman palace, built at the end of the first century B.C , sit precariously on the rocks edge overlooking Capri. It takes around 45 minutes to walk the steep steps up to it, but the impressive ruins and spectacular views make it worth the effort.

Villa Lysis

Built by the Parisian count Fersen in 1904, after his exile from Paris, this enchanting spot became a bohemian hub for poets, artists, and writers.  After being left abandoned for decades, the villa is now open to the public and you can take a step back in time while enjoying the views over Capri.

The Gardens of Augustus

These stunning gardens are a collection of flower laden terraces that provide panoramic views over the Faraglioni, the Bay of Marina Piccola and the Via Krupp. It’s a great spot for that picture- perfect shot of the views.

Monte Solaro and the Cetrella Hermitage

Take a fun chairlift ride up to Monte Solaro for amazing panoramic views over the Bay of Naples, the Amalfi coast, and the mountains of Calabria. While there, visitors can take a walk over to the small hermitage of Cetrella, a beautifully peaceful place perfect for deep contemplation.

The Blue Grotto

A visit to the famous Grotta Azzurra is one of the top things to do in Capri. Take a relaxing boat ride out to sea and into a metre high stone portal through to the glistening azure cavern. This natural sea cave is a spectacular site and one not to be missed while on Capri.

The Punta Carena lighthouse

Located on the southwestern coast of the island, and built along the precipice of the Migliera, the second tallest ‘faro’ in Italy proudly guards the Tyrrhenian sea bellow it. Head there in the evening for a spectacular sunset.

A day at the beach in Marina Piccola

A visit to the most glamourous beach is a must while visiting Capri and is easily reachable on foot by walking down the pleasant Via Mulo. The beach is divided in two and is perfect for watching the sunrise and swimming out to the Faraglioni.

Walk along the Via del Pizzolungo

If you need a break from the busy crowds, then this pretty walk along the coast is the perfect respite. Starting from the Piazzetta all the way along the coast to the Natural Arc and ending at the Punta Tragara viewing point.

As well as the stunning places to visit, the island of Capri is also home to delicious cuisine and in particular beautiful artisanal Limoncello.
