Amalfi coast itineraries: the must see spots

Located just beneath Naples on the southern coast of the Sorrento Peninsula, this breathtaking coastal area is made up of various towns within the region of Campania.

Home to Vietri tiles and the land of Limoncello along with its stunning views are just some of the aspects that attract so many visitors to this part of Italy. Not forgetting the azure waters with fishing boats and yacht bobbing about lazily; hidden coves and colourful houses that make this place unique. Let’s explore an Amalfi coast itinerary that will really allow you to appreciate the unrivalled natural beauty of this much loved area.



 


Transport: How to get around

There is one road that runs along the Amalfi coast known as Amalfi Drive, it snakes along the coast and makes for a thrilling ride. If you are a confident driver and don’t mind the winding roads and Vespas whizzing by then getting your own car could be an exciting option for an Amalfi coast trip. However, one thing to consider if you are driving is that parking is hard to come by once you get to the towns. You can also get ferries from starting points such as Positano and this is a great way to spend a few hours in each place. There is also a bus service between the villages and to many of the Villas and viewpoints. However, bear in mind that the schedules vary greatly depending on when you are there. The closest you can get to the Amalfi coast by train is to Sorrento, making a good starting point for your Amalfi adventure.

Walk The path of the Gods

One of Italy’s most iconic trails, starting in Bomerano, about an hour’s drive from Positano, follow the 6.5 kilometre path through quaint villages and impressive clifftops until the town of Nocelle. You won’t be disappointed with this hiking trail which is considered one of the most beautiful in Italy with breathtaking views over the Med.

Capri: A breathtaking island

Ferrys depart from the main beach in Positano and take only 30 minutes. This spectacular island dotted with elegant villas perched on steep cliffsides is worth a day trip. Circumnavigate the island on a boat tour to really take in the natural beauty; visit the Blue Grotto, one of the best Amalfi coast Italy tourist attractions, and then ride the chairlift up to Anacapri and take in the breathtaking views. Be sure to try the ravioli capresi. Simply delicious!

Positano to Amalfi: An epic adventure

The journey between Positano and Amalfi only takes 30 minutes but makes for an incredibly scenic and beautiful drive and is on many travellers’ bucket list. Drive along the famed Amalfi Drive and expect hairpin bends, dramatic cliffs, and views over crystal blue waters.

Amalfi: Elegance and beauty.

A charming picture-perfect town with narrow alleyways and boasting an impressive 9th century cathedral. A great place for shopping with numerous boutiques selling local arts and crafts and great for picking up some souvenirs. Stop by one of the many restaurants and don’t forget to try Delizie Al Limone the typical Campanian dessert.

Ravello: Romantic and picturesque.

Just a fifteen minute drive from Amalfi is the ever so romantic town of Ravelo. From there you can get to Villa Cimbrone an astounding villa with spectacular views on the Terrace of Infinity and lush gardens dotted with Romanesque busts and statues.

Day trip from Naples to Amalfi coast:

If you are staying in Naples and only have time for a day trip to the Amalfi coast, then the ferry takes just under two hours to the town of Amalfi. From there is the option of guided tours that will take you from town to town stress free.

It’s as crystal clear as the Amalfi waters to see why these 50 kilometres stretch of coast is so loved by visitors and locals alike. Unique architecture, natural beauty and delicious cuisine make an Amalfi coast trip a must for anyone who loves to explore and travel.
