Security checks
After check-in and before going to the boarding area, you go through security staffed by ADR Security personnel, equipped with metal detectors and other safety equipment.
Containers of liquids with a capacity exceeding 100 ml may only be carried in hand luggage if they are empty, otherwise they must be checked in as check-in luggage.
The new-generation EDS C3 scanners at security in Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 at Fiumicino Airport allow passengers to leave liquids in containers up to 100 ml and electrical and electronic devices in their hand luggage, instead of having to remove them before passing through security. With regards to flights to the USA or Israel, security check methods with the traditional X-ray machines used at Fiumicino airport remain unchanged, requiring the separation of liquids (max 100 ml in a plastic bag of max 1000 ml) and electrical and electronic devices from hand luggage.
Exceptions to the restrictions are LAGs (Liquids, Aerosols and Gases) to be used during the trip for medical purposes or for a special dietary regime, including baby food, which may also be allowed in hand luggage in quantities exceeding 100 ml, after separation from hand luggage and dedicated security screening.
The times for conducting security checks may vary even throughout the course of the same day.
We therefore recommend always arriving at the airport with plenty of time to spare.
Place any valuable items and cash in the tray in such a way so that they are not immediately visible to those ahead of you or behind you in the queue (for example, in the pocket of a jacket, etc.).
As much as possible, try to maintain visual contact with the tray.
Remember that ADR Security personnel do not take delivery of the items that you placed in the tray and they cannot identify which passenger used any given tray.
How to go through security with your children
If you are travelling with your children or you are pregnant, go to the family lane, furthermore, below you can find some information on the necessary products during your trip that you can bring and some advice on how to deal with the security checks (only for security checkpoints not equipped with the new EDS C3 technology):
:
- Remember to remove children’s food items from your bag, including feeding bottles, milk, fruit juices, water and other drinks, baby food and soups you have prepared. Place the individual containers into the tray so that security staff can carry out the necessary checks faster and more easily
- Liquid foods, cream, gel and paste, for example drinks, soups and syrups, may be taken on board the aircraft after being checked, only if you are travelling with a child aged 10 years or younger.
What do I do with the stroller?
- Remove all accessories from it, such as the rain cover, games, and changing bag. Put everything into the tray and then onto the belt. Please remove your child from the stroller. You may have to carry the child. We will need to check the stroller, so please close it and ask security staff to help you place it into the x-ray machine
- If you are departing and have checked in proceed to the security control through the Family Lane.
