WHILL: a self-driving chair

WHILL: get around Rome Fiumicino Airport with ease!
Reduced mobility passengers can now access Fiumicino Airport easily and be independent thanks to WHILL, the a self-driving chair especially designed for them. This advanced device is an important step towards a smoother, safer and more accessible airport experience for everyone.
How does WHILL work?
Passengers can easily set their desired destination on the WHILL chairs available near the RMP reception halls at Terminal 3. Once the destination set, the WHILL autonomously takes the passenger to the gate, avoiding obstacles thanks to intelligent sensors. The travel experience thus becomes comfortable and independent until boarding. At the end of the set route, the device will automatically go back to its starting place.
WHILL: innovation in motion
WHILL's autonomous chair is one of the technologies tested as part of ADR's Innovation Hub start-up acceleration programme. This start-up in the field of autonomous mobility operates in more than 25 countries with the aim of improving accessibility of environments such as airports, hospitals, theme parks, cruise ships and conference centres.
ADR: a Driver of Innovation
The joint work of ADR Assistance, the ADR group’s company that provides the RMP (Reduced Mobility Passengers) assistance service, and the WHILL start-up confirms ADR's commitment to innovation and inclusion and consolidates its role as a driver of development in the airport sector and an example of excellence in passenger services.
